NMN (beta-nicotinamide mononucleotide) is one of the most talked-about supplements in longevity circles. It's also one of the hardest to shop for. Doses vary from 175 mg to 900 mg per capsule, prices per 500 mg range more than sixfold, and "third-party tested" can mean anything from a lot-matched lab report to a sentence on a product page.
So we did not rank these products on marketing claims. We ranked them on three things you can check yourself:
Published testing. Is there a public lab report (a Certificate of Analysis, or COA) for the finished capsules, tied to a lot number?
Label dose. How much NMN per capsule and per serving?
Cost per 500 mg of NMN. This lets you compare a 175 mg capsule to a 500 mg one fairly.
How we researched this: We have not lab-tested these products ourselves. Specs, prices, and testing details come from brand product pages and two independent documentation trackers: HealthPlugged's NMN Product Specs Database and COA Index (checked August 28, 2026) and Numi Naturals' side-by-side lab-report review (read October 10, 2026). Prices are one-time US list prices before coupons, subscriptions, tax, and shipping. They change often, so check the current price before you buy.

What NMN is, and what the research actually shows
NMN is a form of vitamin B3. Your body uses it to make NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), a coenzyme involved in cellular energy metabolism. NAD+ levels tend to fall with age, which is why NMN became a cornerstone of many healthy-aging stacks.
Animal studies created most of the excitement. Human data is newer and smaller, but it exists:
Blood NAD+ goes up. In a 60-day randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 80 healthy middle-aged adults (Yi et al., GeroScience, 2022), blood NAD+ rose significantly in all NMN groups (300, 600, and 900 mg/day) compared with placebo. Levels were highest at 600 mg and 900 mg.
Some physical performance signals. In the same trial, six-minute walking distance increased more in the NMN groups than placebo, with the longest distances in the 600 mg and 900 mg groups. The authors concluded that efficacy "reaches highest at a dose of 600 mg daily."
No change in some markers. That trial found no significant difference versus placebo in HOMA-IR, a common metabolic marker.
Well tolerated in trials. No safety issues were found at up to 900 mg/day over 60 days in the Yi trial.
Muscle metabolism research. A 10-week trial published in Science (Yoshino et al., 2021) gave 250 mg/day NMN to a small group of postmenopausal women with overweight and found improved muscle insulin sensitivity and signaling. This was a specific, small population, so don't assume the result applies to everyone.
The honest takeaway: NMN reliably raises blood NAD+ in humans. Evidence for downstream effects on how you feel or perform is early, comes from short trials with small groups, and some markers don't move at all. If you try NMN, treat it as a personal experiment and track something measurable, such as energy, training output, or sleep data from a wearable, rather than expecting dramatic results.
Is NMN legal to sell as a supplement in the US?
Yes, as of now. In 2022 the FDA took the position that NMN was excluded from the dietary supplement definition because it had been studied as a drug. On September 29, 2025, responding to a citizen petition from the Natural Products Association and the Alliance for Natural Health USA, the FDA revised its interpretation and concluded NMN is not excluded from the definition of a dietary supplement, citing evidence that NMN was marketed as a supplement in the US as early as 2017.
That ruling is about legal status. It isn't an endorsement of any product's quality or effects, which is why testing matters so much.
How we chose: what "third-party tested" should mean
Supplements in the US are not approved by the FDA before sale, so quality control is up to the brand. For NMN, three kinds of testing matter:
Finished-product potency. Does the capsule you swallow contain the labeled NMN amount? A raw-material report only proves the bulk powder was pure before it was encapsulated.
Lot matching. Can you match the report to the lot number printed on your bottle?
Safety panel. Heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury) and microbiology (e.g., E. coli, Salmonella).
Accreditation helps too. An ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab, or one with PJLA accreditation, has been independently assessed for testing competence.
The best NMN supplements, reviewed
1. Renue By Science LIPO NMN — Best overall
[AFFILIATE: Renue By Science]
Dose: 250 mg per capsule, 500 mg per 2-capsule serving
Bottle: 45 servings
Price: $64.95 one-time (about $1.44 per 500 mg)
Format: Liposomal delivery matrix
Why it's our top pick: Renue publishes reports by batch number, and its documentation is the most complete in this group. A Summit Nutritional Laboratories HPLC report for lot 062827351 (dated July 20, 2026) measured 507.8 mg NMN per serving against a 500 mg minimum. A separate Colmaric Analyticals report (PJLA-accredited, dated September 4, 2026) for the same lot measured 504 mg per serving, with lead, arsenic, and cadmium at 0.004 ppm or less, mercury below 0.001 ppm, and E. coli and Salmonella negative.
Keep in mind: "Liposomal" is a delivery claim. The lab reports verify potency and purity, not better absorption. We don't assume any absorption advantage. Renue also sells NMN powder, which the tracker VerifiedSupplementData lists at about $0.27 per 500 mg, if you don't mind measuring scoops.
2. ProHealth Longevity NMN Pro 500 — Best one-capsule 500 mg dose
[AFFILIATE: ProHealth Longevity]
Dose: 500 mg per capsule (Uthever beta-NMN)
Bottle: 30 servings
Price: $42.95 one-time (about $1.43 per 500 mg)
Why we like it: One capsule gives you 500 mg, the simplest routine on this list. Brighton Laboratory (ISO/IEC 17025-accredited) measured 513.2 mg NMN per capsule in finished capsules from lot 2509142 (report dated November 3, 2025). ProHealth says every batch is third-party tested in US labs, and Forbes Health notes the company offers a 100-day return policy on its NMN.
Keep in mind: The public report covers potency only. Heavy metals and microbiology weren't on it.
3. Just Glow UTHEVER NMN 250 mg — Best lower dose with a full safety panel
[AFFILIATE: Just Glow]
Dose: 250 mg per capsule
Bottle: 60 servings
Price: $34.98 one-time (about $1.17 per 500 mg)
Why we like it: It's a good fit if you want to start low. The finished lot 10126 measured 276 mg per capsule, above the label, and the report includes heavy metals and microbiology, all passing. A separate raw-material report shows 99.0% purity.
Keep in mind: The finished-capsule report is dated August 2024, the oldest in this group. Ask the brand for a current lot report.
4. Nutricost NMN — Best budget 500 mg serving
[AFFILIATE: Nutricost]
Dose: 250 mg per capsule, 500 mg per 2-capsule serving
Bottle: 30 servings
Price: $21.97 one-time (about $0.73 per 500 mg)
Why we like it: It's the lowest price for a 500 mg serving among the products we compared.
Keep in mind: Nutricost states its products are third-party tested, but we found no public lot-specific NMN report on the product page. You're trading verifiability for price.
5. California Gold Nutrition NMN 175 mg — Lowest cost per milligram
[AFFILIATE: iHerb]
Dose: 175 mg per capsule
Bottle: 60 servings
Price: $10.50 one-time (about $0.50 per 500 mg)
Why we like it: It's iHerb's house brand and the cheapest way to get NMN on this list, which makes it handy for trying out a low dose.
Keep in mind: At 175 mg, reaching the 300–600 mg used in trials takes 2–4 capsules a day. When we checked, iHerb's public iTested report was listed as "coming soon."
6. Double Wood NMN — Documented, but pricey per milligram
[AFFILIATE: Double Wood]
Dose: 125 mg per capsule, 250 mg per serving; 30 servings; $48.95 (about $3.26 per 500 mg)
There is a finished-product HPLC report for lot 2405203 (PJLA-accredited lab, February 2025), but it shows only "pass" against the 250 mg spec, with no measured number and no contaminant panel. It's the most expensive single-ingredient NMN here per milligram.
7. ROKIT America NMN + Pterostilbene — For stack-minded buyers
[AFFILIATE: ROKIT America]
Dose: 250 mg NMN + 250 mg pterostilbene per 2-capsule serving; 30 servings; $51.55
Pterostilbene is a resveratrol-like compound often paired with NAD+ precursors. ROKIT shares raw-material purity results (99.90% and 99.91%), but we found no public finished-product potency report.
Not recommended right now: Toniiq NMN 300
At $29.97 for 30 servings of 300 mg, the price is fair. However, the lab report linked from the product page covers a different product (NMN 1200), so it can't verify the current formula. We'll revisit if Toniiq publishes a matching report.
How to choose the right NMN supplement
1. Ask for a finished-product COA with your lot number. It's the single biggest quality signal. If a brand can't provide one, consider that a yellow flag.
2. Compare cost per 500 mg, not cost per bottle. A $10 bottle of 175 mg capsules and a $65 bottle of 500 mg servings aren't the same product. Divide the price by the total NMN in the bottle.
3. Choose a dose with research behind it. Human trials have mostly used 250–900 mg/day. NMN makers named 600 mg/day for up to 60 days, or 300 mg/day for ongoing use, in their FDA filings, according to VerifiedSupplementData. Some products, such as 900 mg single capsules, go beyond those amounts.
4. Don't pay extra for unverified delivery claims. "Liposomal," "sublingual," and "enhanced absorption" may or may not matter. None of the reports here measure absorption.
5. Look at storage. NMN is commonly recommended to be kept cool and dry. Follow the label.
6. Track it. Choose one or two outcomes to monitor for 8–12 weeks, such as morning HRV, resting heart rate, training volume, or subjective energy. A wearable like Oura or WHOOP makes this easier. A biomarker test can add more detail. See our testing guides.
NMN vs NR vs NAD+: which precursor?
NMN is one enzymatic step from NAD+. Human trials show it raises blood NAD+.
NR (nicotinamide riboside) is another NAD+ precursor, sold mainly as Tru Niagen. It has its own body of human research.
Oral NAD+ is a larger molecule, and many researchers question how well it's absorbed intact.
We'll cover NMN vs NR in depth in a separate guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best NMN supplement? Based on published documentation, Renue By Science LIPO NMN has the most complete public testing (lot-matched potency plus heavy metals and microbiology). ProHealth NMN Pro 500 is the simplest one-capsule 500 mg option with a matched potency report. "Best" for you depends on dose, budget, and how much verification you want.
How much NMN should I take? Human trials have generally used 250–900 mg/day. In the 60-day Yi et al. trial, 600 mg/day gave the strongest results on the outcomes measured. Start low, follow the label, and ask a healthcare professional about your situation.
Is NMN safe? In published trials lasting up to about 60 days, NMN was well tolerated at doses up to 900 mg/day in healthy adults. Long-term human safety data is limited. Talk to your doctor if you take medication or have a health condition.
When should I take NMN, morning or night? Many people take it in the morning, but no strong human research has shown that timing makes a difference. Consistency matters more.
Does NMN need to be refrigerated? Follow each brand's storage instructions. Many recommend keeping it cool and dry and away from heat and humidity.
Is NMN legal in the US? Yes. In September 2025, the FDA concluded that NMN is not excluded from the dietary supplement definition, reversing its 2022 position.
How long does it take to notice anything? Blood NAD+ rose within 30 days in the Yi et al. trial. Whether you feel a difference varies a lot from person to person, and many people notice nothing. Track objective data for 8–12 weeks.
Is liposomal NMN better? Not proven. Renue's reports confirm potency and purity, but no lab report we reviewed measures absorption.
Bottom line
If you want NMN with paperwork you can actually check, start with Renue By Science LIPO NMN [AFFILIATE: Renue By Science] or ProHealth NMN Pro 500 [AFFILIATE: ProHealth Longevity]. On a budget, Nutricost [AFFILIATE: Nutricost] or California Gold Nutrition [AFFILIATE: iHerb] cost less but come with less public verification. Whatever you buy, match your bottle's lot number to a report, compare by cost per 500 mg, and measure your own results.
